Prof. Glauco Tocchini-Valentini, Monterotondo/Rome, Italy

The Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche-Istituto di Biologia Cellulare (CNR-IBC) at the "A. Buzzati-Traverso" International Campus in Monterotondo (Roma), is responsible for the management of the EMMA core structure. The Monterotondo facility includes a new Specific-Pathogen-Free (SPF) barrier and new quarantine areas and cryopreservation, genotyping and sanitary analysis laboratories. With an estimated total capacity of 40,000-60,000 live animals and >100,000 frozen embryo/gamete vials, this is the largest mouse research repository in Italy and the only Italian archive performing complete in-house processing and quality control of banked strains. Mouse phenotyping facilities are also available at CNR-IBC, including a complete behavioural analysis unity. Prof. Glauco Tocchini-Valentini is the director of the CNR-IBC and co-ordinator of the EMMAinf Research Infrastructures Programme grant under the FP6. CNR-IBC is also a partner of the FP6 EUMODIC, MUGEN and EUCOMM projects for functional genomics in the mouse model and of the FP6 CASIMIR Coordination Action.
