The “Dirección General de Universidades e Investigación de la Comunidad de Madrid” - Main Directorate General for Universities and Research - has the responsibility of science and university policies of the Regional Government. Its main competences are: Planning and implementation of research and technology development policies, boosting technology innovation, promotion of researchers training in those knowledge fields prioritized by the regional research policy, coordination with universities and research centres and development of research plans. The “Dirección General de Universidades e Investigación” is responsible of coordination of the regional system of science and technology (www.madrimasd.org) in a region where 30% of total Spanish science activity is developed, having Madrid a 1.81 % expenditure in R&D on the regional GDP.
