Genetic informationGenetic selection of MSO-Slow mice based upon their very long latency toward seizures by injection of a single dose of 75 mg/kg methionine sulfoximine. The selection was performed on genetic random crosses of eight inbred mouse strains: ABP/Le, A/J, BALB/c, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6J, CBA/H, DBA/2J, and SWXL-4.
Phenotypic informationMSO-Slow line is characterized by 1) a very long latency and a very low susceptibility toward seizures upon injection of methionine sulfoximine; 2) low susceptibility to kainic acid and MK-801; 3) an increase in brain glycogen content induced by methionine sulfoximine; 4) involvement of 5-HT in seizures and brain glycogen content. This line has its counterpart as the MSO-Fast mice.
Breeding historyRandom crosses of eight inbred mouse strains: ABP/Le, A/J, BALB/c, C3H/HeJ, C57BL/6J, CBA/H, DBA/2J, and SWXL-4 to generate G1. G1 was challenged by a single ip injection of 75 mg/kg methionine sulfoximine and selected upon latency to methionine sulfoximine induced seizures. Mice having the longest latency were inter-crossed without brother-sister crosses. This challenge was repeated for 10 generations, reaching the point where the phenotype was considered as fixed. Then crossing sisters with brothers for 8 generations to perform inbreeding.

Order

Availabilities

Requesting frozen sperm or embryos is generally advisable wherever possible, in order to minimise the shipment of live mice.

Due to the dynamic nature of our processes strain availability may change at short notice. The local repository manager will advise you in these circumstances.

* In addition users have to cover all the shipping costs (including the cost for returning dry-shippers, where applicable).
