Genetic informationThis mouse carries a beta-geo transgene driven by the 5' region of Sox2 (promoter/enhancer), that directs expression to a specific subregion of the pan-neural expression domain of Sox2, i.e. the telencephalon.
Phenotypic informationExpression of the beta-geo transgene is seen in vivo in the telencephalon, and in vitro in neural stem cells cultured from the telencephalon, where expression is retained in long-term culture. Expression of this transgene marks telencephalic stem cells, as opposed to neural stem cells from different regions of the neural tube (e.g. spinal cord, that do not express it; Zappone M et al, Development 127:2367-2382, 2000).
Breeding historyThe transgene was propagated by breeding carriers to cousins, or occasionally brothers/sisters
