Genetic informationMost of exon 3 encoding the transmembrane domain of Scara5 was deleted (chromosomal position: 65689781-65689865 bp on chromosome 14) and replaced in-frame by EGFP cassette (EGFP-polyA-Neo, Neomycin gene runs to the opposite direction with its own promoter) with the remaining intracellular sequence of Scara5.
Phenotypic informationHomozygous:
The mice are born in normal Mendelian distribution without any apparent phenotype. Their lifespan is normal, but with age one can find signs of different autoimmune diseases with inflammatory cell infiltrates in different organs such as lung, skin, liver, adipose tissue. Serum also contains high titres of antinuclear antibodies (ANA). The male mice can develop infertility with age with epididymal obstruction and cell loss in the seminiferous tubuli. This occurs in about 70 % of the male mice and can be seen around 3 months of age.

Heterozygous:
Normal
Breeding historyThe mice have been backcrossed more than 10 times with C57BL/6N mice. Currently they have been bred as full knockouts for 2 generations.
