Archivefrontier
Archivefrontier will lead to a platform which will offer the archiving and distribution of mouse models under highest quality standards, mouse production from ES cells and access to the strain data in the EMMA resource database. To increase the number of mouse mutants archived per year from hundreds to thousands the European Mouse Mutant Archive (EMMA) will be upgraded and new facilities will be constructed.
The platform will be coordinated and run by EMMA that showed great success in archiving and distribution of mouse models over the last years. Within Archivefrontier additional mouse centres where research and infrastructure coexist, and that are leaders with respect to excellence and national importance, will be selected to become part of the infrastructure.
A specialized service that the Archivefrontier platform will provide is the generation of germ-free (axenic) mice. This germ-free service has been established within the EMMA network and is increasingly requested by the mouse community.
Furthermore, it is planned to implement the latest technological advancements in order to accellerate the cryopreservation methods, make them more cost-efficient and to always provide customers with a state-of-the-art service. In response to frequent requests from the biomedical research community education and training on cryopreservation and reconstitution techniques will be provided in laboratory courses of different formats.
