Joint workshop of the ESFRI BMS projects on funding and legal issues (Nov 17)
Twenty representatives of the ESFRI BMS projects (BBMRI, EATRIS, ECRIN, ELIXIR, Infrafrontier, INSTRUCT), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Commission (EC) met in London to discuss common strategies of funding and legal issues. The meeting took place on Nov 17 at the Wellcome Collection Conference Centre in London. Jacques van der Meer gave a presentation on the financial instruments of the EIB for research infrastructures. Annika Thies of the Commission provided the latest information about the proposed legal instrument for pan-European research infrastructures. Vera Herkomer gave an overview on EMBL as a successfully established European research infrastructure. All participants agreed that the process of discussions and information exchange among the ESFRI BMS projects on legal and funding issues that was initiated at this workshop should be continued in further meetings.

Hrabé de Angelis presents Infrafrontier at the Annual General Assembly of the Helmholtz Association
In the presence of the German Federal Minister of Education and Research Dr. Annette Schawan and the President of the Helmholtz Association Prof. Dr. Jürgen Mlynek, Infrafrontier coordinator Prof. Dr. Martin Hrabé de Angelis introduced the project and pointed out how Infrafrontier will strengthen the field of mouse functional genomics and thereby contribute to the study of human disease. The panel discussion under the theme of 'Research infrastructures as nucleus of international networks', was moderated by TV news anchorman Steffen Seibert and was one of the highlights at the Annual General Assembly of the Helmholtz Association on 11-September-08 in Berlin.

WP5 – Draft Engineering Specifications: Workshop 29/30-September
The HZI, leader of the WP5, organises a workshop on 29/30-September-08 for the members of the 'visiting team' in Braunschweig. At the meeting the phenotyping and archiving facilities to be included on the tour list will be identified and tasks and schedule of the site visits will be specified. In addition, the objectives and topics of the WP5 Workshop in 2009 will be discussed.

Infrafrontier website receives facelift
The Infrafrontier website is the central information hub of the project. From its public and internal pages information is disseminated within the consortium and to the wider community. The website's functionality is currently optimised. As a first step, the web presence of Infrafrontier has been re-designed and includes now also the new logo of the project.

Infrafrontier Strategy Meeting at the Munich Airport
The members of the 'Strategy and Governance' work package and representatives of the observing countries Austria and Czech Republic met at the Munich Airport to discuss central strategic issues of the emerging infrastructure. Project Vision, considerations about the future legal status and the organisation and governance structure, financial and budgetary issues were the central points on the meeting agenda. The discussions will be continued in working groups on 'Scientific Issues and Services', 'IPR and Access Rules', and 'Impact Studies'.
