MRC Mammalian Genetics Unit (MRC-MGU2)

Prof. Steve Brown, Harwell, UK
The MRC-MGU is a major international centre at the forefront of studies in mouse functional genomics with excellent facilities and expertise in mouse genetics and genomics, phenotyping (from the molecular to the physiological), informatics, computational biology, pathology and archiving amongst others. The MGU is focused on contributing to a systems biology of the mouse with a focus on genetics approaches in a variety of disease areas. The MGU has around 120 staff and 13 research groups, revolving around four themes - Functional Genomics, Developmental Genetics, Neuroscience, and Metabolism and Inflammation. The research groups are supported by several core facilities providing services in genotyping, mutation detection, sequencing, arrays, proteomics and embryo and sperm freezing. Prof. Steve Brown is the director of the MGU. MGU is coordinator of the Eumorphia project and is coordinator of the new EUMODIC project. MGU is partner in EMMA, EUCOMM and a number of other EU funded projects, such as Euregene, Eurohear, Diabesity and EUClock.
