The Center of Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy (CBATEG) is specialised in the study of the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases, especially diabetes mellitus (type 1 and 2) and obesity, and their secondary complications (retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy). Research is based on transgenic animal models and aims to develop new gene-therapy approaches to these diseases. The CBATEG has established a core of platforms that offer metabolic, in vivo imaging, morphological and pathological mouse phenotypic analyses to internal and external users. In addition, CBATEG is currently participating in several European projects. Prof. Dr. Fátima Bosch is the head of the CBATEG.
