Using Conditional Transgenic Models

18 - 19 June 2026
Advance at MRC Harwell
MRC Harwell, Oxfordshire, UK

This course focuses on conditional mouse models, including the Cre-Lox system and other recombinase platforms (Flp, Dre, Vika). These tools allow researchers to control gene expression in specific tissues, cell types, or time points, making it possible to study gene functions that cannot be analyzed with traditional knockout models.

The course highlights how combining multiple recombinase systems can enable highly precise genetic manipulations, such as switching a normal exon for a mutant version to model disease progression.

However, because these systems are complex, they are prone to experimental pitfalls and misinterpretation that are often not obvious from the literature. The course therefore aims to help researchers understand how conditional models work, recognize potential errors, control for confounding effects, and troubleshoot unexpected outcomes when experiments do not behave as planned.

Who is this for?

Anyone who is using or planning to use conditional models, that has previous knowledge of advanced mouse genetics, including researchers, PhD students and colony managers.
