BioMedBridges is a joint project of twelve biomedical sciences research infrastructures on the ESFRI roadmap, which aims at ensuring that European life scientists have seamless and secure access to the data needed to conduct cutting-edge research. Together, the project partners will develop the shared e-infrastructure—the technical bridges—to allow interoperability between data and services in the biological, medical, translational and clinical domains and thus strengthen biomedical resources in Europe.

INFRAFRONTIER, as project partner, leads the Work Package 7- "Use case: PhenoBridge - crossing the species bridge between mouse and human". This work package is aimed at harmonising ontological descriptions of phenotypes in mouse and human, consequently improving the links between mouse and human data. Using diabetes and obesity as framework, Phenobridge will increase the relevance of data that is generated in mouse studies to be further applied in clinical studies.

Specific objectives of BioMedBridges WP7- PhenoBridge are:

  • To identify and develop a set of annotations / terminologies.
  • To identify and group interacting parameters involved in the development of clinical and molecular phenotypes.
  • To work towards automation of phenotypic discovery and develop a related prototype service.
  • To apply these rules to a subset of mouse model and human studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of mouse model-human data integration.

BioMedBridges project  is funded by the EC FP7 Capacities Specific Programme, Grant Agreement number 284209.
