Information from provider
| Provider | Andrew Easton |
| Provider affiliation | School of Life Sciences, University of Warwick |
| Genetic information | The strain contains no known mutations. |
| Phenotypic information | Homozygous:These animals have no known genetic mutations. This strain is extremely sensitive to infection with human influenza A virus making it an excellent model for studying influenza virus-induced disease processes. The mice appear normal and have a characteristic 'mahogany' coat colour that gives their name and was used to maintain the line after its spontaneous appearance. Tail length can occasionally be short in some animals, the reason for which is not known.Heterozygous:As homozygous mice. |
| Breeding history | The strain arose spontaneously in the Medical Research Council toxicology Unit in Surrey, England in the 1970s. The strain was obtained by the University of Warwick from the commercial supplier Bantin and Kingman Ltd., Grimston, UK and has been bred at Warwick University for over 20 years. No commercial supply of this strain is now available. |
