Genetic informationENU mutagenesis induced an adenine to guanine (A1073G) transition in Pde4b exon 11 that results in the amino acid substitution of cysteine for tyrosine at position 358 (Y358C).
Phenotypic informationHomozygous:
In behavioral assays, B6.C-Pde4b mice display decreased anxiety and increased exploration, as well as cognitive enhancement across several tests of learning and memory, consistent with synaptic changes including enhanced long-term potentiation and impaired depotentiation ex vivo. B6.C-Pde4b mice also demonstrate enhanced neurogenesis.

Heterozygous:
Superficially normal, but a detailed analysis of the heterozygous phenotype has not been carried out.
Breeding historyThe mutation was induced by ENU in a BALB/cAnN mouse and was first detected within that mouse's (C3H/HeH × BALB/cAnN) F1 progeny (mouse stock EMRCB/60.3d). It was subsequently outcrossed once to C57BL/6NTac and then maintained by backcrossing to C57BL/6JCrl (Charles River) for at least 10 generations.
