Research Resource Identifiers (RRID) are persistent unique ID numbers assigned to help researchers cite key resources (e.g. antibodies, model organisms and software projects) in the biomedical literature to improve transparency and reproducibility in research. See https://www.rrids.org/ for more information.

Information from provider

ProviderKelly Frazer
Provider affiliationDepartment of Pediatrics, Institute for Genomic Medicine
Genetic informationThe mouse strain contains a 110-kb human apo(a) gene surrounded by greater than 60 kb of 5' and 3' flanking DNA. A full description of the creation of the YAC transgenic mouse is published in Frazer KA, Narla G, Zhang LJ and Rubin EM. Nature Genetics 9 (1995) 424-431, and Byrne, C.D., Schwartz, K., Meer, K., Cheng, J.-F. & Lawn, R.M. The human apolipoprotein(a)/plasminogen gene cluster contains a novel homologue transcribed in liver. Atherosclerosis and Thromb. 14, 534-541 (1994).
Phenotypic informationHomozygous:
The mice have no phenotype - except that they express an apolipoprotein, apo(a), that is found only in primates (humans and apes).

Heterozygous:
The same as homozygous mice except that the expression (concentration in plasma) is approximately half.
Breeding historyThe YAC DNA was micro-injected into oocytes of inbred FVB mice in year 1995 and kept since in this background strain. In 2010 we obtained a breeding pair of this mouse strain and backcrossed it into BALB/cByJIco mice from Charles River. Each year we performed 3 inbred crossing and thus there are currently approximately F40 offsprings.

Availabilities

Requesting frozen sperm or embryos is generally advisable wherever possible, in order to minimise the shipment of live mice.

  • Frozen sperm. Delivered in 4 weeks (after paperwork in place). €1740*
  • Rederivation of mice from frozen stock, delivery time available upon request . €3880*

Due to the dynamic nature of our processes strain availability may change at short notice. The local repository manager will advise you in these circumstances.

* In addition users have to cover all the shipping costs (including the cost for returning dry-shippers, where applicable).
