| Genetic information | cre recombinase-mediated deletion of exon 2 of Kcnk1 gene, which encodes the 'two-pore domains', as well as transmembrane domains TM2 and TM3 of the channel. Sequence analysis of the PCR products showed that deletion of the exon 2 resulted in transcripts encoding a short protein harboring the N and C cytoplasmic ends and the two transmembrane domains TM1 and TM4, separated by a extracellular loop. See ref PubMed ID: 16025300 (Nie, Arrighi et al. 2005). |
| Phenotypic information | Mild hypoglycemia; Renal salt reabsorption defect. |
| Breeding history | Kcnk1 (TWIK-1) +/-; backcrossed to C57BL/6J (Charles River) for 11 generations. Current generation >N11F4. |
