| Genetic information | Transgenic mouse. loxP-NEO-stop-loxP-gremlin1 cassette cloned under SPC-promoter. Crossing with a cre recombinase-expressing line drives expression of gremlin in lung type II epithelial cells. |
| Phenotypic information | Homozygous:When crossed with Gt(ROSA)26Sor-creERT2 mice, gremlin expression is detected in lung type II epithelial cells. The mice are viable and show mild septal thickening and possible alveolar space enlargement at 6 months of age. When exposed to silica, significantly less inflammatory cell infiltrates are observed in lung tissue compared to wild type mice. No obvious alterations in histological fibrosis were noted after silica exposure.Heterozygous:When crossed with Gt(ROSA)26Sor-creERT2 mice, gremlin expression is detected in lung type II epithelial cells. The mice are viable and show mild septal thickening and possible alveolar space enlargement at 6 months of age. When exposed to silica, significantly less inflammatory cell infiltrates are observed in lung tissue compared to wild type mice. No obvious alterations in histological fibrosis were noted after silica exposure. |
