| Genetic information | In the gene for the NMDA receptor subunit GluN2A (Grin2a) a single amino acid codon that determines the voltage dependence of the NMDA receptor was replaced by gene targeting. In the mutated GluN2A subunit the amino acid Asparagine is replaced by Serine. In vitro studies with recombinant receptors showed that the gating of the mutated NMDA receptor is voltage independent. |
| Phenotypic information | Homozygous:In homozygous mice audiogenic seizures can be induced with a 100% efficiency. Homozygous mice show many learning and memory impairments.Heterozygous:Some heterozygous mice show audiogenic induced seizure impairments. No significant learning impairments could be detected up to now. |
| Breeding history | In August 2014, 32 embryos of C57BL/6 and heterozygous Grin2a(N615S)/+ mice were harvested and cryoconserved. |
