Phenotypic information | Heterozygotes have a bruised appearance at birth with bloody areas beneath the skin, most common around the belly and abdomen, some around the neck and back legs. Most also have a domed head. Penetrance of the mutation is slightly reduced, but estimated to be over 70%. Affected offspring are about 20% lighter than normal sibs at birth, and about 35% lighter than wild-type gender matched sibs at weaning. Viability of affected offspring between birth and weaning is estimated to be about 75%. Average litter size of heterozygous females is reduced (estimate: 4.9). Homozygotes: opening data indicate that they probably die by early post implantation, with a large proportion dying pre-implantation. |
Breeding history | Original background: (C3H/HeH x 101/H) x PT. Maintained background: C3H/HeH x 101/H. Breeding History: Backcrossed to C3H/HeH for several generations. |
