Genetic informationA 2 kb long H-2Kb 5' regulatory sequence, including the promoter was fused to the E. coli lacZ gene. The construct was then microinjected into (C57BL/6 x SJL/J)F2 fertilized eggs.
Phenotypic informationThe H-2Z1 transgenic line exhibits a striking and unexpected expression profile. In this line, lacZ expression in the cortex is exactly restricted to the somatosensory area. This marker was used in combination with embryonic cortex transplantation experiments to monitor the establishment of neocortex regionalization.
Breeding historyThe H-2Z1 line was maintained by successive crosses of H-2Z1 heterozygous males with (C57BL/6 x CBA)F1 females. On other genetic backgrounds, the H-2Z1 expression pattern in the neocortex is expanded.
