Genetic informationIn the targeting vector, a 6-kb genomic fragment containing multiple exons of the Munc13-2 gene that are shared by the two Munc13-2 splice variants [bp 2907–3904 of bMunc13-2 cDNA (GenBank U24071); bp 1439–2436 of ub-Munc13-2 cDNA (GenBank AF159706)] was replaced by a neomycin resistance cassette. Immunoblotting of adult brain homogenates with an antibody recognizing both Munc13-2 splice variants demonstrated the total absence of Munc13-2 in mutant brains.
Phenotypic informationHomozygous:
Apart from sporadic seizures in older animals (above 12 months of age), Munc13-2 KOs were indistinguishable from wild-type littermates.

Heterozygous:
Heterozygous mice are normal and show no obvious alterations in comparison to wild-type controls.
Breeding historyHomologous recombination in embryonic stem cells of 129/Sv, consecutive backcrosses with C57BL/6J animals.
