Genetic information | The non-agouti locus from C57BL/6J has been bred to congenicity on a 129S9/SvEvH background. This stock is homozygous for non-agouti (a/a). When chimaeric mice derived from 129S9/SvEvH ES cells are tested for germ line transmission (GLT) it is often performed against a C57BL/6J background to use the non-agouti phenotype as a marker of non-GLT. Mice with Agouti coats are derived from the ES cells and therefore potential carriers of the genetic alteration. These mice however are F1s between C57BL/6 and 129S9/SvEvH. By transferring the a locus to the 129S9/SvEvH background we be able to maintain the 129 genetic background whilst checking for GLT. This strain allows chimaeric mice derived from 129S9/SvEvH ES cells to be tested for germline transmission using coat colour but ensuring that the genetic background is maintained as 129S9/SvEvH. |
Phenotypic information | Black coat colour. The non-agouti locus from C57BL/6J has been bred to congenicity on a 129S9/SvEvH background. This stock is homozygous for non-agouti (a/a). |
Breeding history | The non-agouti locus from C57BL/6J has been bred to congenicity on a 129S9/SvEvH background. This stock is homozygous for non-agouti (a/a) and maintained by brother x sister mating. |
